The week before Christmas I finally hooked up my HD-TV. I had the TV sitting in a box for about six months before I decided to put it on display in my home. I must say, there is no comparison between HD and the analog televisions I have in my home. When I watch football I see things I have never seen before. I see sweat fly during collisions, cuts and bruises, and blood everywhere. It is an incredible experience. As I watched my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers win yet another title I was thinking about the comparisons between Christ and HD-TV. I know, stick with me for just a moment here.
2 Corinthians 4:4 states, “…the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” This verse states that Christ is the IMAGE of God. Prior to Christ walking the earth no one had seen God in the Flesh. God was untouchable and unreachable. For some the Old Testament image of God was fuzzy and blurry. The God of the Old Testament is often seen as a mean and punishing God, without grace or mercy. The glory and character of God was marred by the analog signal people were receiving.
Suddenly, Christ arrives on the seen and like the cable man delivers a high definition picture of God that had not been seen before. He showed that God was Holy. Yet, he showed what was hidden by the bad signal. Jesus brought to life the blood, sweat, and tears of the Father. Christ showed in detail the grace and mercy of the Lord. He displayed God’s desire for the healing and restoration of the World. Christ made the image of the Lord jump off the screen as he walked, talked, and touched the people. Many stood amazed by the clarity of the image of God. There was no comparison between the perceived false image of God and the reality of his presence.
Christ didn’t stop at High Definition. He went one step further. Jesus brought the Father to us in 3-D. When Christ provided His Spirit to us he made the picture all that much clearer. Not only is God the Father’s image clear, He is now interactive. We are given the privilege of fellowship with the Lord by way of His Spirit. In a way it’s like those Sony HD commercials. Sony asks the question, “If Sports are broadcast in Sony doesn’t it make sense to watch them in Sony HD?” I ask the question, “If Christ lived by the Spirit, doesn’t it make sense to know Him in the Spirit?”
The Spirit of Christ provides us with comfort, power, fellowship, discernment, healing, transformation, and so much more. If we are to see Christ and the Father as they intended we need the Holy Spirit to enlighten us. The Holy Spirit brings the presence of God to us. Operating without the Spirit of God is like having HD without the proper converter box. Hard as you try, you will never see the clarity HD (Christ) provides.
If you have not taken the time to look at God through the life of Christ and the transmission of the Spirit I highly recommend that you do. Together, Christ and the Spirit will transform your view of God, the world, and yourself. Take some time and connect with Jesus in prayer and in His word the Bible. Once you have experienced life in HD you won’t ever go back.
